Audience Effects Theory

  1) Write a definition of a  passive  audience: A passive audience are people who take in information passively from the media which shows us that the message has the same effect on everyone. 2)  Write a definition of an  active  audience:  An active audience are people who accept the view of the media work they see. 3) Write a definition of the  hypodermic needle  theory:  This is a view that the audience always takes things passively.this means they take the intentions of the media text and inject it in their mind. 4) Write down a  media product  (e.g. TV show, newspaper or videogame)   for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and  WHY  it fits that particular audience use/gratification INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE:  The Times newspaper  > Why: It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more. PERSONAL IDENTITY:The lion king   > Why:the transformation is a reminder of how you can accept responsibility and embrace your ow

  1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? The preferred reading of a media text  is how the producer wants the audience to see the media text. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? The oppositional reading of a media text is something that places the audience in a different position they were in before/changes their view. 3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film? The trailer of the Harry Brown clip wants the audience to think that most kids are very bad and like to commit bad things because of what other people are doing or to be cool. This shows us that most people commit to doing bad things because of the influence of other people. This would most certainly make the audience believe that if they are doing these bad things they would not care about the consequences of their own actions.Meaning if they got in trouble they would not care and would still continue their bad ways. 4) Why might young pe

Media assessment learner response

  1) Type up your feedback in  full  (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential) Q3 feedback: -You seem fixated on 'rich' when really its more about passion+love and confidence Q5 feedback: -Don't go straight into the evidence, first do the point answering the question. -All aspects of CLAMPS that support your point(you need a clear point first!) Q6 feedback: -Don't act like every charity ad has kids in it -A bit all over the place. Some good examples 2)Write down the mark you achieved for each question:  Q1.1 Q2.1 Q3.4 Q4.1,1 Q5.3 Q6.3 3)Identify one of your  stronger  questions. Why did you do better on this question? I did better on the questions where i had to show what the image connotes because i feel like that is my strongest part to learn. 4) Identify one of your  weaker  questions. Why did you score lower on this particular question? i scored lower in question 5 because i did not use all aspects of clamps that could be s

Demographics and Psychographics

1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience? Media companies use the audience's age, gender, education, social class,race/ethnicity,job,home.By using these 7 Demographic classifications makes it easier to create a demographic profile. 2)Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics? It is much more easier for companies to use audience profiling because it helps the audience gain better access to information.Audience profiling helps the advertisers or companies make what they are producing fit what the customers like. 3) What psychographic group or groups do  YOU  belong in? Camera movement and editing

1.Zoom: At the start of the clip we can see a zoom on the main characters face.We can see that he looks very calm but seems like he is somewhat panicking but wont show it so that he does not mess up his plan.I feel like the director chose this so that they could zoom in on his facial expressions so that we know what is going on in this scene. This has a positive effect on the audience because they can now have a sort of idea of how the character is feeling by their  facial expressions.A better way of saying this would be show not tell because the character is not telling us his emotions he is just showing us them 2.Crane: At 2.00 we can see a crane shot. The man is running while the camera is in the air following him.The director used this angle so that we could see the guy running but also so that we could focus on the setting that he is running in.This has a positive effect on the reader because it connotes that he is obviously running from people but its not in any normal type of pl

Camera shots

1:Medium close up: At the start we can see a medium close up shot of the women's body,we can also see that she is holding some sort of small booklet which shows that it is a form of id.We can infer from this that we are focusing on what the women could be holding while still trying to see what the background is like as well as what she is wearing. This shows us where the women is in this clip which is an ordinary warm like cosy house which shows us that she is not too rich an not too poor but likes to keep her house well and cosy. 2.Close up: At 0.30 we can see a close up shot of a woman who looks somewhat overwhelmed but seems like she is focused on what everyone is saying listening to every detail. This shows us that the women is different to the others because she is the only person at the start who has had a close up shot used on her. This shows us that she could also be the least powerful person on this call since she also dose seem the most clueless in some parts while trying to
