Audience Effects Theory

 


1) Write a definition of a passive audience:

A passive audience are people who take in information passively from the media which shows us that the message has the same effect on everyone.

2) Write a definition of an active audience: 

An active audience are people who accept the view of the media work they see.

3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory: 

This is a view that the audience always takes things passively.this means they take the intentions of the media text and inject it in their mind.

4) Write down a media product (e.g. TV show, newspaper or videogame) for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification

INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE: The Times newspaper
 > Why: It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more.
PERSONAL IDENTITY:The lion king 
 > Why:the transformation is a reminder of how you can accept responsibility and embrace your own identity   
DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT: Britain got talent
 > Why:It is a pure show for entertainment and lets you show off your talent
RELATIONSHIPS:Gossip girls
 > Why: It is about a group of girls who seem to get away with everything.However there is an anonymous blog which watches their every move
