Reception theory

 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

The preferred reading of a media text  is how the producer wants the audience to see the media text.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

The oppositional reading of a media text is something that places the audience in a different position they were in before/changes their view.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

The trailer of the Harry Brown clip wants the audience to think that most kids are very bad and like to commit bad things because of what other people are doing or to be cool. This shows us that most people commit to doing bad things because of the influence of other people. This would most certainly make the audience believe that if they are doing these bad things they would not care about the consequences of their own actions.Meaning if they got in trouble they would not care and would still continue their bad ways.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

Young people would reject this reading because they would believe that young people would not act like this. They would believe that young people would not want to engage in certain acts like this because of their age and they know the consequences behind these bad deeds.Young people who reject this reading would be better physically and mentally because they are not doing bad things which would lead them into not being the best person they can be.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

Most people who will see this advert will most likely buy the burger because it looks very juicy and very nice to eat.The burger also looks very appetising because of the structure of it.This will lead more people to buying it because most people care about how the products look.People who have a preferred reading of the McDonald's advert are people who are more likely to believe everything they see on the internet. However people who have a preferred reading on this advert would most certainly go and buy this burger straight away because their mind believes that this is really how the burger looks. On the other hand some people will be hesitant about this burger because some of them will believe that the burger would not look like this in real life and that it would not have all the qualities seen in the photo. Also even though some people would not believe that the burger  looks like this in real life they would believe that the burger is still a yummy delicious treat.People who have a negotiated reading of this McDonald's advert would most likely still buy this burger but would be unsure that they will get the burger looking exactly like the photo. Some of the audience seeing this advert would completely believe that this burger is fully fake, does not look like this in real life and does not taste good at all and most certainly does not look this juicy. The people who have an oppositional reading on this advert most likely do not believe anything that is seen on the internet meaning they do not trust everything they see.Perhaps they would still want to buy this burger because McDonald's dose give out good food but they would not believe the advertisement created by McDonald's.

  1. This is a good start Shymia but you have not read the tasks correctly. Your analysis of the Harry Brown trailer needs to be longer and in more detail and so does your 150+ (it says above this comment!!) analysis of the Macdonalds advert - you were supposed to mention preferred, negotiated and oppositional but you have written one sentence and not mentioned any of those! Re-do please!
