1) Who is the target audience for Doctor Who? Do you think it has changed since 1963?

The target audience for doctor who is mainstream and appeals to people from the age 12 and 40.I believe that it has changed and more of a wider audience of people are watching Doctor Who now.

2) What audience pleasures are offered by Doctor Who - An Unearthly Child? Apply Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.

Personal Identity:Teens because they are the same age as Susan

Personal Relationships:Teacher student bond (some teens may have bonds with certain teachers)

Diversion (Escapism):The school could be an escape place for susan because it makes her feel happy

1) What was the television industry like in 1963? How many channels were there?

There were only two TV channels,videos were only in black and white,not many people had Tvs

2) How does An Unearthly Child reflect the level of technology in the TV industry in 1963?

In An Unearthly Child we can see that the editing is very off and that they are using a handheld camera.For example in the scene where the tardis takes off we can see the handheld camera moving around to create the effect of the tardis moving.

3) Why is Doctor Who such an important franchise for the BBC? 

Doctor Who helped create a wider audience for the BBC because the audience was engaged

Doctor Who has lots of merchandise so that it can gain loyal supporters and make more profit
