Gender representation in advertising
Women were seen to stay at home and do all the cooking and cleaning.Their hair had to be perfectly done and their makeup should be flawless. In the adverts the women would always be cooking or cleaning. The products for the advert would always be a cleaning or cooking product and the main character would always feature a women in it.The stereotype was that women should stay home and be cooking or cleaning for their husband while he works to make money for the household. Also women would have to have their hair and makeup done for their husband to seem pretty and modest for them.
4) What stereotypes of women can you find in the post-2000s adverts?
The stereotypes form women in the 2000s was that they had to please men. This meant that they were heavily objectified and had to make sure that they fitted the beauty standards.Women were still seen as much more weaker than men. They were still seen as they were supposed to stay at home and cook or clean.Women were suppose to have washboard abs and toned bodies. If a certain women did not have that they would be judged for it.This was another stereotype because women were judged for how they look.
5) How do your chosen adverts suggest representations of gender have changed over the last 60 years?
The difference from my chosen adverts is that over the 60 year period the stereotype for women have became less and less. There are still some stereotypes towards women however it is not as bad as what was seen in the 1950s-1960s.Also the appearance of women has changed such as the way they style their hair, how they do their makeup and how they dress. These days now women are wearing clothes that fit their desires and not to make a man proud.I feel like now there is less stereotypes against women which is very good because it means that society is becoming better and is treating women better.
