Costume:

Denotations:The girl in the picture looks like she is wearing a hospital gown.

Connotation:The girl in the picture is wearing some sort of gown (could be hospital) which connotes that she may be very sick or is going to be experimented on something.

Lighting:

Denotation:The lighting is very dark and looks like it only has one source of light from someting.

Connotation:There looks like there is only one source of light in the photo meaning that it could be coming from a lamp.It highlights the photo a bit more to emphasise what’s going on in the photo.

Actions/actors:

Denotation:The girl in the photo looked focused,looks like she’s trying to control something.

Connotation:The girl in the photo looks focused on the can meaning that she could be trying to control it with her mind.Her eyes look glued to the can to make the effect of moving the can much easier.She has good posture and is sitting upright which senses she’s focused.

Make up and hair:

Denotation:The girl has a shaved head.She looks like she has eye bags.

Connotation:The girl has a shaved head and does not look like she did it herself meaning that someone else did it for her this connotes that she could be being experimented on.Her eye bags connote that she has had a lack of sleep meaning that someone or something has been keeping her awake.

Props:

Denotation:In the photo you can see a coca cola can.In the back you can also see a freezer.

Connotation:In the photo you can see a coke can which is quite squished this connotes that something has obviously happened for the coke can to be squished.


Setting:

Denotation:In the photo you can see a plain background there isn’t any wild sorts of colours.

Connotation:In the photo you can see the background is very plain which shows that it’s a lab type place because you can only see white and grey which mostly involves around labs or other places where people do experiments.

3) What stereotypes of women can you find in the 1950s and 1960s adverts?   1) What year was the advert produced? The year the  OMO  advert was produced was in 1955 2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s?
